The statement of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against President Rodrigo Duterte is not covered by parliamentary immunity.
This is according to a group of lawyers who filed inciting to sedition case against the senator.
They particularly pointed to the senator’s alleged encouragement of the military to take down the Chief Executive due to his alleged hidden wealth; his effort to paint an image of the president hoarding questionable wealth; and for forcing the people to file a petition against the Chief Executive.
The group also plans to file charges against the senator’s other alleged accomplices.
On Thursday , the Pasay City prosecutor’s office saw probable cause to file inciting to sedition charges against Trillanes.
“The interpretation of the city fiscal, the speech of Trillanes has nothing to do with Congress, with legislation, about an inquiry in the Senate. That’s why it’s plainly just to malign, just to tell a lie to the Filipino people. This is just to simply just to malign the President of the Republic of the Philippines,” said Atty.
