SUSPECT NG PAGPATAY NG MAG INA SA CAVITE NAGSURRENDER

The suspect in the slay of a mother and her daughter in Cavite surrendered to authorities on Thursday.

According to initial police reports, Ruel Cabatingan presented himself to the Eastern Samar Provincial Police at around 7:30 a.m. on December 28.

The police identified Cabatingan as a 36-year-old overseas Filipino worker residing in Imus, Cavite.

“He admitted to the crime but told me that he would only speak about it before the court,” Nicart said.

Cabatingan confessed to the murder of Ruby Gamos and her seven-year-old daughter Shaniah Nicole Gamos.

The mother and daughter were found dead in their home in General Trias, Cavite on December 11.

According to police reports, Ruby suffered head injuries while the child bore strangulation marks. However, there were no signs of forced entry into their residence.

It was also found that the family's car, television, gadgets and jewelry were missing.

The police official said the suspect had been staying with his older brother, Fernando Cabatingan Jr. in Barangay Maybacong, Borongan, since Dec. 14, three days after the bodies of Gamos and her daughter were discovered inside their house in General Trias on Dec. 11.

“His brother was not aware that he was involved in the crime. But when he learned about it (through news), he convinced him (the suspect) to surrender to us,” Nicart said.

Nicart and Fernando both belong to the Evangelical Church. “We are happy that he (Cabatingan) decided to surrender considering that this is a sensational crime,” Nicart said.

Cabatingan is now detained at the Eastern Visayas police before he is brought to Cavite.

Before the crime happened, it seems that the suspect and the victim was open to show their close relationship on social media without fearing of being caught.

One post of Cabatingan also showed that Marlon might knew him and he even thanked the OFW for taking care of his ‘daughter’ in one of his post.

“Marlon, salamat sa pagkilala sa anak ko bilang tunay na anak mo,” Cabatingan said in his post.

After the suspect voluntarily surrendered, he admitted that he had an affair with the victim, however he didn’t told the reason why he committed the crime.

The sympathy of some netizens to Ruby Gamos was replaced by anger and hate after the results of the investigation circulated on social media, saying that the victim should not had an affair with other men while her husband was working abroad.

Netizens also guessed that the reason why the suspect killed the victim is because of ‘jealousy’, because Marlon Gamos, the husband of the victim was planning to go home several weeks before the crime happened.
