This woman is like many mothers who want to give everything to their children in order for them to have a better life. She didn't want to wait for her husband salary which is not enough for their family so she decided to work abroad so that she also can earn and give everything to her kids.
She is Leizel Antonio a 32-year-old mother of two boys. They don't have their own home, they live under the roof of her husband's parents. She also admitted that her husband is a little lazy to work which left her with the choice to ask for a loan from her neighbors so that she could buy a meal for her children or take them to school.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking thing that could ever happen to a mother is when her children could not recognize her anymore. This became the living nightmare of Leizel who just came home from her gruesome job overseas, only to find out that her children failed to recognize her as their own mother.
She applied as a domestic helper but during her work abroad she experienced terrible things.
She was not allowed to leave the house when her employers were not there and most of the time she didn't have enough sleep because aside from cleaning she also had to take care of a child and her employer's father. She even got called unnecessary things like 'stupid' by her employers.
The terrible part is that the child she is taking care of slapped her in the face when she tried to make the kid work on a school homework but like a common child's behavior the kid wouldn't want to do the homework and this scenario left her in tears.
When she reported the incident to the parents she didn't expect their reply, they only laughed at her and in some cases, the kids would spit on her face.
All of her experience made a steel out of her she bore all of it for her kids. Fortunately, after a year she was able to transfer to a different employer.
She worked as a domestic helper for two years in abroad and she was able to build a home for her family.
Seeing her family in a troublesome situation baffled her, she decided to fly abroad to work as a domestic helper. However, her pursuit for a better life became a nightmare when she experienced verbal and physical abuse from her employers.
“Naranasan ko din na masabihan ng amo ko na stupid. Ang sakit na sabihan na stupid. Kaya doon na ako muntikan nang bumigay. Muntikan na akong masiraan, pero sa awa ng Diyos, ginabayan niya ako.”
“Anong sakit ng loob ko… sa kakaaya sa bata na gawin ang assignment ng magulang niya… sinampal ako. Di ko naranasan sa mga anak ko, kayo pa kaya.”
When she told her employers that their child maltreated her, they only laughed at her.
Leizel’s two years of hardwork had paid off and she was able to buy a home for her family. It was almost perfect, not until she came back to the Philippines only to find out that her kids don’t know who she is.
“Sa unang gabi at araw ko sana kapiling ko anak ko, ayaw nila lumapit sa’kin kasi di daw ako ang mama nila.”
Despite all the troubles she experienced, her faith in God remained steadfast.
“Basta dasal lang, tiyaga, at buo ang loob kasama si God. Makakaya ang lahat.”
